This is an outstanding lake for Rainbow Trout, and Arctic Grayling. Dune Lake also is stocked with landlocked Silver Salmon, so the fishing action is perfect. Geskakmina Lake in the shadow of Mt. McKinley and the cabin sits in a riparian zone. This is the cabin that is the remotes of all four cabins. The lake is a haven for Rainbow Trout and landlocked Silver Salmon. Deadman Lake sits in a beautiful location. The cabin and lake are surrounded by tall trees and a rolling hill type of environment. This is the place to come if you want to fish for Northern Pike. This is also a cabin that is perfect for fishermen and couples. Minto Flats is a paradise if you want to target Northern Pike. Expect a lot of action from the Pike. Some pike can exceed 40 inches. Tip: Bring steel leaders as Pike are famous for biting through the fishing line. With 700 plus razor-sharp teeth, your line will not stand a chance.
The Fish, Monsters, and Tricks
Lake fishing is perfect for both fly fishing or spin casting. Before you leave, check out the local fly patterns for Rainbow Trout, Arctic Grayling, and Silver Salmon. Typically, these involve local insect patterns. Silver Salmon and Rainbow Trout, though love brightly colored flies and spinners. Pink, orange, chartreuse, and black are all favorite colors. If you are fishing for monster sized Northern Pike, then consider dry flies that look like small rodents. Gently drag them over a weedy patch of water and chances are you will entice the monsters to strike. For sinking flies and lures, try a minnow pattern. If you have a smolt pattern, those may work well too. Northern Pike like to ambush their prey so think like a predator and stalk sunken logs, the edge of weed patches, and places where small fish would find refuge.
If you love adventure, then a trip to Alaska with Marina Air is likely the best option for you.
