Ask the Pros - Anchorage 2-3 Days of Fishing After Cruise

• I will be coming from a cruise on Princess lines on May 27,2026. Ending up in Anchorage. I wanted to get in a 2-3 day fishing trip for the experience , my husband will be joining also.. what do you recommend? I am reading where the Salmon will be running the last of May to early June. I will be flying out of Anchorage when finished fishing. Can you assist in short term trips like this?

  Congrats on your travels to Alaska in May of 2026! The end of May into early June is a great time to fish! But, not so much for salmon in South-Central Alaska. King Salmon are historically present at that time of year. However, sadly, Kings have been closed the last 4 years on the majority of rivers across South Central AK. And it will more than likely be closed again next year, I hope I am wrong! The end of May/early June is a great time to fish for leopard rainbow trout, arctic grayling, and dolly varden! Especially just a little north of Anchorage on the Alaska Parks Highway River systems. There is lot's of water in our area and many guests will fish for multiple days covering different waters and rivers! Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

  Your timing put’s you here during the front end of King Salmon season. We have not had any open rivers for King’s the last three years and I am not expecting for them to be open next year either, but we won’t know that till early next spring. There is a local fishery for Kings in downtown Anchorage, they are hatchery fish, but I don’t think that is the experience you are looking for.

  Your best option would be to reach out to Drifters Lodge or Alaska Wildland Adventures, they are both located in Cooper Landing Alaska, and see what they have to offer and say. I recommend these two because they both have lodging and a shuttle service to and from Anchorage.
