  • My son and I are planning a 2 week fishing trip to Alaska the last week of July and first week in August. The first week we were going to the Kenai for sockeye but we're undecided were to go he second week? We were thinking of heading to Willow area on Pareks Hwy the 2nd week. Do you think the first week of August in to early to target silvers up near Willow or along Alaska Parks Highway?

  • Joel,

Congrats on you and your son’s upcoming trip to Alaska! You are coming at one of the best times of the year to fish in Alaska! The Kenai River is a great fishery as is the Parks Highway River systems. The Alaska Parks Highway offers Anglers a lot of beautiful Clearwater River access. There are 8 different rivers with easy access off the highway. In addition to great Silver Salmon fishing...rainbow trout, arctic grayling, and Dolly Varden fishery are also incredible. There will also be a large amount of pink and Chum salmon present as well. So tons of variety and species to fish for here. This why my family and I as well as our guide service call Willow, Alaska home!

  • Hi Joel,

You are going to be on the very front end of Coho’s on the Parks, but it could be doable depending on the run and it's timing. The Anchor river, south towards Homer, would be another option but again at the very front end of the run. Your other option would be rivers like Bird Creek, Portage and Ingrahm Creeks, all along the Turnagain arm but not exactly a great option if scenery and more solitude is a part of the desire.

Trout fishing will be really good along the Parks Hwy if that is of interest.

Anything we can do to help, please let us know.
