Our family of four is visiting Alaska for the first time and will be in Seward during the first week of September. Our youngest daughter (in her late 20s) wants to try to fish, but gets seasick easily. What do you suggest for an experience that would be fun for novices, but not too expensive. We do not have any equipment & are not looking to spend an entire day fishing (my other daughter is not as excited about this). Seeing bears on our trip would be a plus!

Hi Debbie,
Your best option would be to book either a half day or full day on the Upper Kenai River in Cooper Landing. A full day float would provide some fishing and a ton of sight seeing that will include Eagles and highly likely some bears. It would be a fun adventure for those that want to fish and those that want to just sight see. Alaska Troutfitters, Alaska Trout Guides or Jason’s Guide Service are great options and will have all the gear. You can also ask for a Canyon trip, which is beautiful and you get to go across Skilak Lake.
Another option to see some bears would be to walk the board walk along the Russian River. You can access the Russian River via the campground in Cooper Landing. It is highly possible to see some bears along the river fishing themselves.

Congratulations on traveling to Alaska with your family!
September in Alaska is amazing, fall colors and incredible fishing! I would suggest looking into a half day fishing trip on the Kenai River in the Cooper Landing area. It's not too far a drive from Seward and is beautiful! There are many guide and outfitters that can get you out on a river fishing trip for a variety of species. Safe travels!
