  • I am planning to fish the road system on Kodiak Island in the fall of 2018.

What is the optimum timing for freshwater silver salmon?

    - Bill

  • The best time for freshwater silver salmon fishing on Kodiak Island and much of Alaska is generally around late-August to mid-September, though they can run through the end of October. Most fish enter the systems starting in early August, but they stack up in slack water more and more as time goes on. A good number of coho will make their way toward such systems as the Buskin, the Salonie, the American, Pasagshak and Russian Creek (to name a few) - all on the road system. As far as techniques, etc... they can be targeted both on the fly and also by using poppers, spinners and plugs.

    Hopefully this helps!

  • Hi Bill,

I would say the month of Sept would be your best timing, the 2nd week on typically fishes good. Good options via the road system there and some really good size Silver Salmon.

    Hope this helps.
