We bought a beach front house a few miles south of the Kenai River. Not quite halfway between the Kasilof and Kenai. We'd like to shore fish for halibut or salmon during June, July, August. Outside of 10' + tall shore rods, and a setup for halibut , are (saltwater) salmon caught near shore along this stretch? What should we use? I thought I saw shore fishing was closed this year for some reason due to the low king count?

Hi Josh,
You should be able to do that, no problem, a lot of people shore fish like that down around Deep Creek and Ninilchik. Will definitely be a tide game and you will want to be really careful of the silt mud, that stuff can suck you in and not let go. As far as what to use, I am a fly guy and not sure what kind of terminal tackle will be best for your setup. I would talk to the folks and B&J Sports, here in Anchorage, they will know what you need.
Thanks - Mike
