AK Fish Charters focuses on King Salmon and Sockeye Salmon fishing on the tributaries of the Copper River. King Salmon is one of the main reasons fishers come to Alaska, and here, they are wild and large. The Sockeye is one, if not the, best Salmon to eat. Thankfully, the Red Salmon show up in huge numbers. King Salmon are big 20 plus pounds big while the Sockeye tends to be in the 5-10 pound range. The big difference between the two is how you fish for them. Kings will snap a fly or egg pattern, but Sockeye doesn't snap at all. You have to floss them. Flossing is dragging the hook along the bottom of the river. The Sockeye swim with their mouth open, and in Alaska, if you can hook them in the mouth, they are legal. Polarized sunglasses are a must. In the Klutina River, King Salmon are big - in the 60-pound range, and the Sockeye are plentiful.
