Alaska Kenai Fishing for Fun sits almost exactly between Sterling and Soldotna and just off the Sterling Highway. They feature guided freshwater fishing on the Kenai, Kasilof, and Russian Rivers for Salmon, Rainbow Trout, and Dolly Varden.Â
The FishingÂ
They offer float trips, walk-and-wade fishing, and flyout fishing. Some of the best fishing on the Kenai is via float trip. If your guide is amazing and many are then you pull up along a sandbar and wade into the water to via for Kings, Silvers, or Chinook. Floating also takes you over the spawning grounds of the King Salmon where you can target Big, Fat, Trophy Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden Char. The season closes early for Kings, but you can target the Big Trout and Char.Â
FlyOut Fishing is cool. Because the run times differ from one river to the next, you can sometimes target Kings when the season is closed locally. You may also hit the Silvers on a flyout when they are not yet in the one of the local rivers. Also, a Flyout fishing trip puts you in remote locations where the fishing pressure is next to nothing and the local fish are still wild.Â
Over all, expect professional guides and pilots and access to some of the best fishing on the planet.Â

The FishÂ
The Kenai River, Kasilof River and Russian River are all dynamic fishing destinations. Expect to access King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Chinook Salmon, Chum Salmon, Trophy Rainbow Trout and Big Dolly Varden Char. The Salmon appear in the local rivers at different times so be sure to plan accordingly. The Kings are first and early, the Sockeye are next and overlap with the Chum Salmon, and the Silvers are usually the last. The time of year that is best for each type of Salmon varies based on the location in the river - Lower, middle, upper, as well as the time of year.Â
They also offer flyout fishing so you can target a greater variety of fish depending on the location. One added bonus for flyout fishing is being able to fly fish for Arctic Grayling. These are smaller fish with sail fins but very smart and a thrill to catch.Â
