The main lodge holds communal kitchen facilities and the common areas that are shared by all guests. The out cabins are set up to hold two guests each. The cabins feature private bath with hot water 24/7 and twin beds. Expect a comfortable stay in an amazing area.

Guided Freshwater Fishing with Alaska Legacy Fishing Lodge

The Kenai River is world famous as a sports fishing destination. Throughout the summer, the five species of Pacific Salmon make their way upstream to their historic spawning grounds. Between the mouth of the Kenai and the spawning grounds, are those who come to challenge the salmon. Fishing with the Alaska Legacy Fishing Lodge offers access to King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Pink Salmon, and the Tiger Salmon (Chum Salmon). The local fishing populations include Arctic Char, Trout, and Steelhead. The Kenai offers remarkable opportunities for fly fishing or for those who cast with a spinner. Expect expert guides who are familiar with the local river and the fish that use the Kenai River as a highway.

Saltwater Fishing and Charters

The Saltwater fishing near the Kenai River is amazing. This is where the salmon stage and gorge before they head up the Kenai River. On a clear day, you can peer down into the ocean and catch a flash of silver from the salmon. Head along the current in a trolling pattern with a flasher working the lower current and the salmon will strike. This is where you find the big Kings 15-40 pounds. The Silvers are here too, and they are the true sports fish of the salmon family. People love to catch the Kings because they are large. The Silvers offer exceptional fight, and they display wild acrobatics as they leap from the water, twisting and turning as they fight against your line.

Then you have the Pacific Halibut. The barn doors and the chickens as they are called by the locals. The chickens weigh under 100 pounds, and the barn doors not only look like a barn door, and easily weigh 100-250 pounds. To give you an idea of what you are fishing for, a 250 pound halibut is as tall as a man and wider. That is a lot of fish to fight, and fight you will. There are other little treasures in the local waters. The rockfish, cod, bass, and others make wonderful fish to catch and eat. The lucky fisherman will attract the attention of the ling cod. These long, lean fish offer amazing sport.

Tour Alaska with Alaska Legacy Fishing Lodge

Besides fishing, Alaska is a very rich environment that offer visitors vistas and experiences that will change your life. Take some time to explore the glacier or view the wildlife. The local has bear, eagles, and more to see. The otters, deer, and caribou are plentiful. Spend a day hiking the wilderness with a guide or enjoy a fly out sightseeing to watch the caribou migrate. You can take a quiet cruise to watch the bears fishing for salmon.

This is an excellent place to discover Alaska and enjoy the best of Alaska fishing.

  • I?ve brought my friends to several different guides since moving to Alaska, and Alan is hands down the best?not even close. A few highlights: He has over 30 years of experience fishing the Kenai, and it shows. We woke up early to claim a great spot, and everyone in our group maxxed out reds before lunchtime. He had an incredible attention to detail and really helped us catch fish whereas other guides nearby were much lazier and pretty much sat back. He lent us SO MUCH equipment and gear to use on our free time. When my Uncle and I wanted to try our luck fishing for trout, Alan let us use his waders, lures, rods, etc. and gave us a detailed demo on what to do. He had no obligation to help us out like that, but he really went above and beyond. Finally, his lodge is clean, stocked with cooking equipment for our fresh catch, and located right next to the Kenai?s best fishing spots. All in all, I was extremely impressed with Alan and Alaska Legacy. I would recommend him to absolutely anyone. Also he?s a great photographer! Attached some photos below:

  • BEST GUIDE ON KENAI RIVER. My dad and I first visited Alan and Alaska Legacy Lodge in 2015. We had such an amazing time we vowed to make it back again. 6 years later, in August 2021 we booked Alan for 4 Kenai River fishing days, 1 halibut trip, and 7 nights of lodging. Alan went above and beyond to put my father and I on the fish and make sure we got the most out of our time there. He will do everything in his power to give you the opportunity to catch limits on salmon, and make you a better fisherman. We caught all our limits and Alan was a resource for us instructing us how we could catch fish in the smaller creeks/ rivers on our own afterwards. Our last day was particularly spectacular when he took us to go fishing for large Kenai rainbows. You couldn't have asked for a better day of fishing and the quality of trout would be hard to find anywhere else in the world. Alan is all pro and Alaska Legacy Lodge is the best fishing experience you could ask for. Needless to say, we will be back again.

  • Top notch. My 82 year old Dad and I have been staying at American Legacy and fishing with Alan Tappan every year for 6 years. Every year and every day are different, fun and exciting. Alan busts his butt to make sure you are on fish and enjoying yourself. After all these years, we have not had one day that was less than perfect. Thanks Alan. We will see you next year.

  • After 3 trips, we're now up to 3 generations that have had the pleasure of enjoying Alan's hospitality and expertise. He is incredibly knowledgeable of the Kenai river and area fishing opportunities. He has a great rapport with other guides and providers and he'll do whatever he can to put you on fish and make sure you have a memorable experience. All around great guy and great lodge. You don't have to doubt or experiment... just go with Alaska Legacy.
