Guided Freshwater Fishing with Alaska Legacy Fishing Lodge

The Kenai River is world famous as a sports fishing destination. Throughout the summer, the five species of Pacific Salmon make their way upstream to their historic spawning grounds. Between the mouth of the Kenai and the spawning grounds, are those who come to challenge the salmon. Fishing with the Alaska Legacy Fishing Lodge offers access to King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Pink Salmon, and the Tiger Salmon (Chum Salmon). The local fishing populations include Arctic Char, Trout, and Steelhead. The Kenai offers remarkable opportunities for fly fishing or for those who cast with a spinner. Expect expert guides who are familiar with the local river and the fish that use the Kenai River as a highway.

Saltwater Fishing and Charters

The Saltwater fishing near the Kenai River is amazing. This is where the salmon stage and gorge before they head up the Kenai River. On a clear day, you can peer down into the ocean and catch a flash of silver from the salmon. Head along the current in a trolling pattern with a flasher working the lower current and the salmon will strike. This is where you find the big Kings 15-40 pounds. The Silvers are here too, and they are the true sports fish of the salmon family. People love to catch the Kings because they are large. The Silvers offer exceptional fight, and they display wild acrobatics as they leap from the water, twisting and turning as they fight against your line.

Then you have the Pacific Halibut. The barn doors and the chickens as they are called by the locals. The chickens weigh under 100 pounds, and the barn doors not only look like a barn door, and easily weigh 100-250 pounds. To give you an idea of what you are fishing for, a 250 pound halibut is as tall as a man and wider. That is a lot of fish to fight, and fight you will. There are other little treasures in the local waters. The rockfish, cod, bass, and others make wonderful fish to catch and eat. The lucky fisherman will attract the attention of the ling cod. These long, lean fish offer amazing sport.
