Alaska Sea Otter Sound Lodge sits on the island of Heceta in a quiet and secluded cover. Guests are flown in by float plane from Ketchikan to the lodge. The area is wild and beautiful. Guests enjoy excellent fishing in either fully guided or self-guided style with outstanding equipment. The lodge is designed to hold up to 16 guests. The rooms are fully furnished in country chic style, each with a private bath.

Expect comfortable accommodations and friendly hosts. The return rate for guests is over 90%. Meals are served family style, and they feed you well. Lunch is boxed and made up of sandwiches on homemade bread. One of the perks of Alaska Sea Otter Sound Lodges is that you plan your own day. That means you can take lunch with you or come back to shore for sit down lunch on the deck.

Self Guided Fishing Adventures

The nice thing here is that they just don't turn you loose on the sound. They take you around and show you how to use the boats. Once you are familiar with the way the boat works and the geography of the sound you are free to fish. It is a fun adventure. You fish from an 18 foot Jetcraft boat and use a Garmin 441 GPS. These waters are rich with fish and even inexperienced fishermen have the time of their lives fishing for halibut, salmon, and bottom fish. You can fly fish or use a spinner rod.

Guided Fishing Adventures

The guided fishing trips begin with a larger boat and four fishermen, plus your coast guard captain guide. Your search is for the Barn Doors, which are the big Halibut. Sports Fishing record for Alaska is a 495 pound barn door. These fish are so large and flat that they resemble a barn door. The chickens are good too. Those are the halibut under 100 pounds. Both are good beer battered with fries.

Other Adventures: There's Bass in Them Waters

Welcome to the Black Bass Tournament. It is held on a mystery day during your stay. Guests can opt to participate or not. Those that participate fish their limit of five black bass. The biggest bass gets the pot of earnings. What fisherman or women does not love catching the biggest bass. Brush up on your black bass flies before you arrive. There is a second prize that involves all of the winners. For the season, the winner with the largest bass out of all the winners gets to come back for free.

If you love to fish, this is an excellent lodge to enjoy that. The hosts are awesome, and the food ad fishing are outstanding.
