Aniak Three River Lodge sits on the bank of the Aniak Slough, which is directly across from the village of Aniak, Alaska. There are daily flights from either of the commercial airlines that service Aniak. The village is home to around 500 residents and offers guests of the lodge a good view of the Alaskan wilderness. The area is on the edge of the Taiga Forest and in the background is the majestic features of the Kuskokwim Mountains. The local area is full of wildlife such as moose and bear. As you travel up or down the river to fish, you will likely see moose and bear close by. In the quiet afternoons, you may also be treated to eagles catching fish out of the streams and rivers.

The lodge is a two story building that can be home to up to eight guests. The lodge features plenty of comfort and many modern features such as internet access. The food here is wholesome. Meals are served family style and are an all you can eat experience. Expect hot breakfasts and sandwiches and soups for lunch. There are snakes available all day long. For dinner, sit down and enjoy prepared food that is both satisfying and delicious wonderfully.

Fishing in Aniak

The Aniak River and the rivers that flow into it offer fishermen a wonderful opportunity to make their fishing dreams come true. These waters are home to all five species of Salmon, several species of Trout, Arctic Grayling, Char, Northern Pike and Sheefish. Because of the location, it is not uncommon to catch multiple species of salmon in the same day. The river flows from Lake Aniak to the Kuskokwim River. Between the lake and the Kuskokwim are various types of habitat that are ideal for different species of fish. The faster sections with the swift riffle sections make wonderful locations to fish for Rainbow Trout, Grayling and Char. The deeper holes often hold salmon. In the quieter sections of the river, you may encounter Northern Pike and or Sheefish.

What to Expect when you Fish the Aniak

Expect a variety of opportunities. There are five species of salmon here throughout the summer, and many arrive at the same time. You may encounter King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Red Salmon, Pink Salmon and the Tiger Salmon. You will likely encounter rainbow trout and possibly cutthroat trout too. There are also the smaller Grayling with their sailfins that are fun to catch. The Shar, such as Dolly Varden make excellent fishing targets. Be ready to switch up your fishing style to take advantage of all that these rivers offer you.

Fishing for the Monsters

The local waters contain two top predators. The Northern Pike and the Sheefish. The pike is a slow and methodical hunter that often surprises its prey by lurking in the weedy areas of the river. The Sheefish, which can weigh upwards of 60 pounds, is a long, lean salmonid fish in the whitefish family. Both are extreme fun to fish if but for different reasons. The pike is a mentalist. You will need your brain to hook one and then battle it. The Sheefish is a brute. It is lightning fast and strikes hard. It is also known as the tarpon of the north because, like those majestic fish, the Sheefish puts on an aerial display. Talk with your guide about how to fish for either of these amazing predators.
