Avid Angler Charters
  • Approximate Cost:
Half Day: $100 to $199 Per Person
  • Type: Charters & Guides
  • Fishing: Guided Fishing Saltwater Fishing

Avid Angler Charters has been serving the visiting angler crowd for the past decade. They are a dedicated crew with quality boats and equipment and the experience to put you over the big Salmon or Halibut. While they do serve the Cruise Ship visitor you must book your charter outside of the cruise ship industry. This will save you money. Best of all their dock is next to the cruise ship docking area so you can simply walk over and start fishing.

Fishing with Avid Angler Charters

Expect quality service. They will meet you at the disembarking area with a sign bearing your name and escort you directly to the boat. Their fishing ground are a short 20-minute boat ride from the dock and during that short trip they will orient you to the boat and fishing. If you need a fishing license, they can sell you one on the way to the fishing grounds saving you the trip to the local bait store.

Guests fish from 30+ foot boats that are clean, professionally crewed and rigged with quality equipment. They want you to land that 400-pound halibut and provide you with the tools to do just that. All boats are licensed and inspected by the US Coast Guard and feature small cabins with all of the comforts you need for a day of fishing.

The Fish

Ketchikan is known as the Salmon Capital of the World and as such lives up to that name. You have access to King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Chum Salmon, and Pink Salmon. June is the best month to target the big Kings while mid-August through September is the prime time to target Silver Salmon. Chum salmon fill the gap in the middle from mid-July through August. If you have never fished for Chum Salmon you are in for a treat. These are large fish, almost to the size of Kings and they are full of fight, like that of the Silvers.

Overall, expect a quality fishing trip with a good crew, good boats, and plenty of fish.
