Becharof Lodge on the Egegik River
  • Approximate Cost:
    4 - 5 Days: $4,500 to $5,000 Per Person
  • Type: Lodges
  • Fishing: Fly Fishing Freshwater Fishing Guided Fishing

Nestled on the upper stretches of Alaska's legendary Egegik River, Becharof Lodge is widely regarded as one of the premier silver salmon fishing destinations in all of Alaska...remote even by Alaska standards. The lodge offers comfortable, affordable accommodations including private cabins, a permanent kitchen and dining hall, hot showers, and flush toilets, all powered by an off-the-grid solar and wind system. With world-class silver salmon fishing just minutes from camp, guests can expect full days on the water, outstanding meals from the lodge's longtime cook, and sweeping views of active volcanoes, open tundra, and breathtaking Bering Sea sunsets.

Beyond the incredible silver salmon fishing the Egegik River is famous for, Becharof Lodge offers an array of bonus adventures that make it truly one-of-a-kind. Guests can hop on a bushplane for affordable flyout trips to some of Alaska's most remote streams, targeting Arctic Grayling, Arctic char, and rainbow trout. Brown bear viewing trips to nearby Brooks Falls put guests up close with the highest concentration of brown bears in the world. And for those looking for a cast-and-blast experience, self-guided willow ptarmigan hunts on the open tundra add a fun and memorable dimension to any silver salmon fishing trip. With experienced operations leadership and a genuine commitment to keeping the experience accessible, Becharof Lodge delivers world-class Alaska adventure at a fraction of the cost of comparable lodges.

Epic Silver Salmon Fishing & Fly-Out Fishing

The Egegik River is touted by many experienced anglers as the best silver salmon stream in all of Alaska, and Becharof Lodge puts you right in the heart of it. Located just minutes by boat from some of the river's most productive holes, including the mouth of Becharof Lake. Guests have quick, easy access to prime water all day long. The Egegik is wide and shallow along its shorelines, making it comfortable and safe to wade regardless of experience level. What makes fishing here truly special is the variety of techniques that produce results. Standing in a single spot, anglers regularly catch silver salmon on drift-fished eggs, spinners, plugs, jigs under a bobber, and even surface poppers on a fly rod. On productive days, experienced anglers can catch and release more than 75 silvers and you're welcome to keep five each day. Whether you're a seasoned angler dialing in a new technique or picking up a rod for the first time, the Egegik River has a way of putting fish in your hands.

For those looking to venture even further into the Alaskan wilderness, Becharof Lodge offers bushplane flyouts to some of the most remote and untouched streams in the state. Thanks to the lodge's unique location, these flyouts are among the most affordable available anywhere in Alaska. Whether you prefer a fly rod or spinning gear, guides can put you on waters teeming with Arctic grayling, Arctic char, rainbow trout, and multiple salmon species...all in settings so wild you may find yourself sharing the riverbank with a brown bear. These day trips offer a remarkable contrast to the already-exceptional fishing back on the Egegik, and give guests the rare chance to experience the kind of remote Alaska fishing most anglers only dream about.

Staying with Becharof Lodge

Staying at Becharof Lodge is as memorable as the fishing itself. The lodge has been thoughtfully upgraded from its early days, now featuring comfortable private cabins, a permanent kitchen and dining hall, hot showers, and flush toilets, amenities that consistently surprise guests expecting rougher conditions this far off the grid. Speaking of surprises, the food is a genuine highlight of any stay. The lodge's longtime cook, Goni, consistently earns some of the highest praise from guests, turning out exceptional meals that have been known to send anglers home a few pounds heavier than when they arrived. The entire camp runs on solar panels and wind generators, keeping things off the grid and authentically remote...with no cell service and extremely limited internet, the outside world fades quickly and that's very much the point. When you do have downtime between fishing, the setting alone is worth savoring. From the lodge you can watch stunning sunrises frame a distant active volcano to the east, and in the evening catch the sun dipping into the Bering Sea across the open tundra to the west. Brown bears are a regular sight around camp, and for those wanting a more up-close encounter, a short bushplane flight to Brooks Falls offers one of the great wildlife spectacles anywhere on earth.

  • Matters not what your level of fishing expertise is...you'll have a great time with Mark, George, and their crew. The fishing was great, the guides were phenomenal, and the food outstanding. This is a remote experience and they've done just about everything to ensure it feels like that, while still having the comforts of home. I'm sure when people talk to the various outfitters at the fishing/outdoor shows, they wonder if what they are being told is true/accurate. It is here. 100%. Thanks again Mark, George, and team for a great week.

  • What an awesome place! Everyone there was top notch. Dave took the time daily to make sure I was always catching fish. Even gave me his special lure! Trent had a few pointers for me as well. Jim challenged me at cribbage each night and I even let him win 1 of the 4 games we played. Joni the chef fattened me up with her unbelievable cooking. Hot fresh cookies every day and home cooked meals that had me back for seconds. Mark was always so kind with any questions I had and George delighted me with all his stories. Caught my limit each day and had a lot of fun!!!

  • I had the best time of my life, the accommodations were great - comfortable and warm, meals were home comfort foods with lots of selection and the guides put me right on the spot where I could catch fish all day long. I picked this trip because I had heard about the abundance of fish but was extremely concerned since at 70 yrs old I have had both knees replaced. The bank was easy to navigate and wading was minimal as the fish seemed to like to be 15 to 30 feet off the bank and casting was easy using their quality equipment. The wildlife was amazing and made the trip all that more exciting. One of my favorite parts of the trip was the enjoyment of the guides making sure your trip is everything you could imagine. I can't wait to go back!

  • Had a great experience at the Becharof Lodge on the Egegik River in Alaska fishing for silvers in August. This was the first time for me and my granddaughter to go sport fishing for salmon and we loved it! This is a very remote place, and beautiful. The accommodations were comfortable, the food was very good, and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful in assisting and guiding us to be successful fisherwomen! The fishing was so good, however, we could hardly have failed! Thanks to all the staff for an entertaining, incredible experience.
