The focus here is on Salmon Fishing and Ketchikan is "the Salmon Capital of the World." You have access to big King Salmon and the best times to fish for those is from Mid-May through June and by then the largest have moved into the rivers. By June, the Sockeye and Chum Salmon are at their peak and offer an amazing experience. The sockeye are one of the best Salmon for eating and the Chum are the second largest of the five Pacific Species of Salmon and they can range to 35 pounds. By mid-July and into Early August the Silver Salmon are pooling around the Inside Passage. They are feeding and resting before they make their freshwater spawning journey. The Pink Salmon only spawn every other year and are often present in huge numbers.
