Bob's Cabin & Guide Service offers lodging and then guiding. You cannot book a guide trip without booking a cabin or a lodge. They are located in Soldotna and along the Kenai River. They provide easy access to the Kenai River and to Cook Inlet. If you want to fish for big fish, this is an excellent option.

Fishing with Bob's Cabin & Guide Service

King Salmon: Peak season is mid-May through the end of July. Expect to have access to the Kings in mid-May with the peak hitting right around June 1.

Sockeye Salmon: Peak season is mid-June through the first week of August. There are two runs of Sockeye on the Kenai with a few weeks between them. What this means is that the peak can stretch to mid-August too.

Silver Salmon: The peak is from August 1 through the end of September and sometimes into October. Expect the best Silver Salmon fishing in mid-August through Mid-September.

Halibut: Halibut are available in Cook Inlet all year long but they best times mirror the peaks for Kings and Silver Salmon. During those times expect big Halibut to be present in Cook Inlet.

Rainbow Trout: Rainbow Trout are a fly fisherman's dream, and here in Alaska the Rainbows are huge. Expect Kanai River Rainbow between 20-33 inches in length. The best time to fish for Rainbow Trout is from mid-June through the end of September, but they tend to peak during the best part of King Salmon Season and again during the Silver Salmon runs.

You can also target big Dolly Vardens at the same time you target Rainbows.

Overall, expect a well run guide service with plenty of opportunities to fish for big Rainbow, Salmon, and Halibut. If you want the option to lodge and fish, this is a great place to find both quality lodging and outstanding guided fishing.

Getting to Soldotna

Finding Soldotna is easy. It is just off the Sterling Highway not far past the town of Sterling. You can drive down from Anchorage in about 2-3 hours, or you can fly right into Soldotna if you have a small plane or you can hop a commuter flight from Anchorage into Kenai, which is about ten miles away. Many guides will pick you up, but you should verify that with the service.
