Iliamna River Lodge
  • Approximate Cost:
    6 - 7 Days: $5,500 to $6,000 Per Person
  • Type: Lodges
  • Fishing: Fly Fishing Freshwater Fishing Guided Fishing

The Iliamna River Lodge sits along the Iliamna River where it empties into Lake Iliamna. This is big fish country and the Lake Iliamna region is famous for big Rainbow Trout, outstanding Salmon Fishing, and a natural home for anyone who loves fly fishing. There is plenty of room for spin casters too.

Fishing with the Iliamna River Lodge

Guests of the lodge have access to freshwater fishing and can arrange a coastal excursion for fishing in saltwater. As a guest, you have access to King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Pink Salmon, Silver Salmon, and Chum or Dog Salmon - All five species of Pacific Salmon.

Fly Fishing for Rainbow Trout is a must during your stay as well as Rainbows grow quite large in these Alaskan waters.

Northern Pike are also plentiful, and if you like an explosive strike and big fish, then Northern Pike are a perfect attraction. These are big fish with plenty of power. They are ideal for both fly fishermen and spin casters.

Arctic Grayling are the tiny guys, and an average Grayling hits the 3-pound mark. A big Grayling hits four pounds, and a world-record might hit the five-pound mark.

Arctic Char are also present, and they are much like Rainbow Trout and Chum Salmon. They are somewhat aggressive and will fight with you. These guys make a great target for anyone looking for a solid 8-pound fish. The good thing about Arctic Char is that they can top the 20-pound mark, which puts them into the same category as small King Salmon and big Silver Salmon.

Expect your fishing trip to be well-organized and expertly guided. Even in Alaska where the fish are plentiful a guide makes all the difference, especially if you want to target the biggest Trophy Fish.

Lodging with the Iliamna River Lodge

The lodge sits unobtrusively amid the boreal pine forests and along the shores of a pristine fishery. The lodge offers a main building and a series of newly built cabins where guests can find comfort, peace, and beauty while not fishing.

The main lodge offers a large great room where you can sit and read, play poker, or just mingle and converse. The idea here is that comfort never looked so good. What looks even better is the food. Expect great food, big portions, and choices.

  • I have been fortunate to do a lot of destination travel for fishing and let me just say that Iliamna River Lodge exceeded my expectations in every way. The staff was incredible and was always ready to help with whatever your needs were. The lodge itself was in a gorgeous location, right on the Iliamna river. The lodge is incredibly maintained, and offers a steam room and even a hot tub, a rarity for Alaskan lodges! The guest cabins were clean and roomy! The main building at the lodge is where we would meet for meals and post fishing drinks. It was a great place to get together with the other guides and guests and hear about the day?s fishing! The food at every meal was incredible, from a good hearty breakfast, to an amazing dinner at the end of the day! And I can?t forget the lunch soups. It?s hard to beat a hot soup on a cold, rainy day in Alaska! Flying out to different fishing destinations almost every day is an incredible experience that every fisherman, or just a person seeking adventure should have! The pilots were friendly and knowledgeable of the area and made sure every flight was safe and smooth! Finally, the guide staff is absolutely top notch. They are very knowledgeable on all aspects of the trip, from fishing techniques, to the locations you are fishing. Most of all they are very patient and all have an excellent sense of humor, very important things when being a fly fishing guide! Thank you again Bill, Mel, and crew for an incredible stay at Iliamna River Lodge! I am already itching to make a return trip! Tight Lines, Peter

  • I absolutely love Iliamna River Lodge. The staff is incredible, the food is amazing, the guides are top tier, the fishing is so diverse and abundant. Whether an exclusive group of 10 or a pair of fishermen, you?ll be taken care of. This also would be a great place to bring a spouse with top tier accommodations, hot tub, and sauna. Can?t recommend enough! I?ve done several trips here and I?ll be coming back again next summer.

  • My dad booked this trip, and we did it because of the option of fishing for so many species, Halibut in the ocean, then salmon and rainbow and char in the river. Melanie and Bill are great hosts and they know the area, they hire the top guides, all of them were super knowledgeable about the area, and we flew float panes daily, you must visit this lodge.
