The Newhalen Lodge sits on the shores of Six-Mile Lake in the Southwestern part of Alaska. The area, which sits just before the panhandle starts is home to trophy Rainbow Trout on the edge of the Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. Six-Mile Lake sits between Lake Iliamna and the Roadhouse Mountains. The Lodge has the feeling of home. It is comfortable, and the food is heavenly. Each of the guest cabin has a private bath and is comfortable. The main lodge offers a fully stocked complimentary bar, Wireless Internet with a community computers. Sit and relax while watching Satellite TV while not fishing. The focus of Newhalen Lodge is all about guest experience.
Fishing with Newhalen Lodge
Newhalen Lodge has three float planes and regular planes. Guests are flown daily to the best fishing locations within the Bristol Bay area. The guides know the waters well and understand the different types of fish that you will encounter. The guides knowledge offers you the best advice to make your fishing adventures perfect. Expect detailed service from the guides from helping pick out flies for the river, teaching fishing techniques and cooking a fresh fish lunch that is served on the shore of the river.
The airplanes will take you from one stream to the next, sometimes you will visit more than one stream in the same day. The lodge also hosts a number of jet ski boats on various Bristol Bay rivers and streams. These make the perfect day trip for drifting downstream to the best fishing spots. During salmon season, the Red Salmon flood the river by the millions. They are so thick that you could likely just pick them up as they swim by your feet. That is the month of July, and it should be well known that the Red salmon are good eating.

The Fish here are Monsters
The local rivers and creeks around Six-Mile Lake are clear bottomed waters that grow some of the biggest Rainbow Trout in the world. These are your target. These trophy monsters can reach 18 pounds and up to 30 inches in length. If the salmon are your target then, the Kings are the real monsters. The Alaska record is 126 pounds for a King. Still the Rainbows are keen. They follow the salmon to gorge on salmon roe. This is where the experience of the guides come into play. The roe changes color throughout the spawning season and the Rainbows are well aware of the best colors based on the month of the year.

- I just got home from a week of fishing at the Newhalen lodge. the fishing was great and the staff was very attentive to my needs. The food was excellent and it was prepared by a full time chef on staff. Bill Sims runs a first class lodge and no one should expect anything less that perfection. Way to go Bill!!!!

- Going back for our 5th time.....need I say more? Absolutely the best keep secret in the Bristol Bay area!!! Great Family, Great staff, Great Food, and spectacular fly fishing, flying , and scenery! The "Best of the Best"!!!
