The South Kodiak Adventures Lodge is located in the town of Akhiok on the southern coast of Kodiak Island. Your host is Gary Rozelle, Sr., and he is a life-long native of Alaska and Kodiak Island. The lodge holds up to six guests and offers personalized service based on guest desires. Other lodges do not always provide guests with the luxury of setting their daily itinerary. Instead, everyone is expected to rise a dawn and march onto a boat for fishing. While there is nothing wrong with that, the South Kodiak Adventures way is to allow the guests to decide what kind of fishing they want to do and what kind of fish they wish to target. Expect that sort of service from this lodge. They provide excellent service and comfortable accommodations.

Fishing with the South Kodiak Adventures

Kodiak Island offers an amazing diversity of fishing opportunities. The local land and sea are home to wonderful species of sports fish. Expect to find hundreds of miles of protected rivers that are open to few fishermen. The saltwater lagoons and bays offer calm fishing for salmon, halibut, and rockfish. As you head inland the rivers teem with Trout, Char, and Salmon. Kodiak is a fishing haven.

Fully Guided Salt and Freshwater

Expect to hit prime Halibut waters. A good Chum pattern will draw in the Halibut. You can also trawl with flashers for the crafty salmon. The Salmon lay thick here to feed before heading upstream. King, Silver, Chum, Pink and Sockeye Salmon are common. If you love to fly fish, the local streams are the destination for all five species of salmon and are home to Trophy Rainbows, Steelhead, and the outstanding Dolly Varden. Dolly Varden are salmonids that look like large rainbow trout. They are easily spotted by their brightly colored spots. Trout have spots that are dark. Dolly Varden feature red, yellow, and orange spots that are just beautiful. They are fighters too with a crafty set of tools to get off your line. If you love a challenge, hit up the Dolly Vardens.

Year Round Activities

South Alaska Adventures offers guided hunting trips for deer, duck, and goose hunting. For non-hunters, the local area is rich in wildlife viewing. Enjoy the otters, orca, bears, eagles, and a huge variety of birds. Hunting and fishing expeditions can be combined. If you come to Kodiak Island, be sure to take some time to view the local legend -- The Kodiak Brown Bears --

Overall, expect a comfortable and friendly stay with excellent guides for fishing. The local area is beautiful, and the village of Akhiok offers an excellent base from which to make your fishing and adventures come true.
