Welcome to the Tiekel River Lodge. We are located at mile 56 of the Richardson Highway, halfway between Valdez and Glennallen. The lodge lies on the north side of Thompson Pass, along the beautiful Tiekel River. On the 'good' side of the pass, the lodge is protected from the rainy weather commonly found in Valdez. The area is known to the locals as the 'Blue Hole' due to the often sunny weather. Our guests have found that we provide the tranquility of a quiet, rustic Alaskan experience without sacrificing any of the comforts of home.

Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden & Artic Grayling

The fishing is good. There are salmon, grayling, rainbow trout, and dolly vardon in the surrounding rivers and lakes. Valdez Also offers ocean fishing and boat tours of the area. We have established relationships with very good guides and are always willing to make reservations for guests or to get the latest information on the salmon runs.

The Tiekel River Lodge is a hiker’s paradise.

The lodge is conveniently located one mile below the Great Alaskan Pipeline. The pipeline is mostly buried through the mountains and is covers by a dirt road as the only evidence of its presence. A little more challenging, the 59 and 54 mile trails are two hikes up to the 5500 foot, small mountain we have nicknamed 'Our Front Door.'

There are many different directions to venture from the top of Thompson Pass and the hikes at the Worthington Glacier are a must for any visitor. There are many other hikeable mountains in the area and several challenging peaks for the more advanced. The lodge is also conveniently located near Copper Center, the Telegraph Trail and other scenic runs. Ask about 'lunch on the mountain.'
