Trapper Jim's Lodge, located on the banks of the beautiful Talachulitna (Tal) River, is located mid way between the river's origins in the foothills of the Alaska Range and its terminus where it empties into the glacial fed Skwentna River, and in the center of world-class Rainbow Trout fishing. After arriving in Anchorage, guests enjoy a short bush plane flight to reach the lodge. Though only 60 miles west of the largest city in Alaska, Trapper Jim's remains remote due to the fact it is only accessible by small plane. Round Trip flight from Anchorage included in the total cost.

The Lodges' relative close proximity to Anchorage, coupled with limited access, allows for a superior fishing experience at a fraction of the cost of other comparable lodges. Guests enjoy a pristine setting, with very little pressure from other fisherman, often fishing an entire day without seeing anyone else.

Your Stay at Trapper Jim's Lodge

Your hosts, Jim and Jolayne Soplanda, have lived on the Tal since 1971. The lodge has always been a small-scale family business allowing for very personalized service. With a preferred group size of not more then four persons per week, you have the option to reserve the lodge for a private experience with no other guests, and we require no minimum number of nights stay. The lovely Mrs. Soplanda does all the cooking; delicious home cooked meals include a hot breakfast and dinner served at the lodge, and a wonderful picnic lunch to be enjoyed on the river to maximize fishing. With over 40 years experience on the Tal, Jim is by far the most experienced guide around, and along with his son Jake, who has been guiding since he could walk, you couldn't have any better odds of catching plenty of fish.

Fishing with Trapper Jim's Lodge

Using jet boats your expert guides have nearly 20 miles of navigable river from which to find the best fishing. The Talachulitna is well known for it's resident trophy Rainbow Trout population; it also receives runs of all 5 species of Salmon and has a healthy population of Arctic Grayling too. Multi-day float trips are an option. Guests are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment, along with a selection of flies and or spinning tackle. We will gladly make suggestions as to what to bring, depending on the time of year, and species of fish that you are interested in targeting.
